CELEBRATION OF LIFE – JAMES LENNON

James finished his earthly journey last Monday, October 2nd, and went Home to be with his Savior.  We will celebrate James’ life together this afternoon here at Westwood beginning at 2:30.  If you can join us, you may want to consider wearing a hat in honor of James’ love for hats of all kinds.  There will be a graveside service following at Woodlawn Cemetery.

FALL FEST - This year’s Fall Fest will be Wednesday, October 25th.  All elementary aged children are invited to come, and encouraged to bring friends.  Our Good News Club students are being invited as well. As in the past we will give out small prizes.  A list of needed items was handed out with your bulletin.  Please purchase and bring whatever you can by October 15th, if possible.

GOOD NEWS CLUB - Remember to pray for our team and the Prairie Lake Elementary students to whom they minister every Friday afternoon at Good News Club.  We now have over 70 students registered.  It is our privilege to present to them the good news about Jesus each week.

SCHOOL SUPPLIES FOR HAITI - Between the RED car wash and the garage sale, we raised nearly $1,000 to send to Haiti for school supplies!  Thank you for your generous participation.

CHOIR - We are preparing again for the choir to lead us in worship on October 29th.  (Remember, this is an every-fifth-Sunday occurrence.)  If you would like to be part of the choir – whether you have sung with us in the past or not – please contact Jaime Largaespada at jaimel@westwoodchurch.com. She will make sure you have everything you need to prepare and practice in advance.

DISTRICT WOMEN’S RETREAT - District Women’s Retreat is coming up soon – the weekend of October 13-15.  We have about 25 women registered to attend from Westwood.  We will have a very brief organizational and informational meeting for everyone who is registered to go immediately following service today.

Also, we will need to use about $500 in scholarship funds for the weekend.  If you are able to help offset that cost, please note on your offering envelope that you are designating funds for “Women’s Retreat.”

SOAPING WEEKLY - In order to prepare your spirit for the message each week, S.O.A.P. through a passage (read the Scripture, make your Observation, find a specific Application, and write a Prayer) in advance of Sunday service.  Suggested SOAPing Scriptures for October are:
       October 15 – Romans 12:1-2

STUDENT MINISTRY DIRECTOR - Tyson, Abby and Ava Simon are making preparations to move from Wyoming to Orlando, where Tyson will assume the position of Student Ministry Director for Westwood Church.  We anticipate their arrival before the end of October.  As a service to them, we are looking for affordable housing options.  Their budget will be very tight - trying to find something in the $800/month range.  Maybe you can help.  Do you have, or know of rental options in our area in that range?  If so, will you contact the office so we can follow up.

CHOICES WOMENS CLINIC - The annual Choices Fundraising Banquet will be held at the Hyatt Regency on International Drive on Thursday, October 12th.  If you are interested in learning more about the ministry, please consider attending this free event.  (It is a fundraiser, so there will be an opportunity to give/pledge your financial support.) You can note “Choices banquet” on your Communication Card or contact Cathy Sullivan to
be included.

GOOD NEWS CLUB - Remember to pray for our team and the Prairie Lake Elementary students to whom they minister every Friday afternoon at Good News Club.  We now have about 60 students registered.  It is our privilege to present to them the good news about Jesus each week.
