SEEKING GOD - Please continue to pray with us as we ask God for wisdom, for clarity and for direction going forward.  Our Elder team has some difficult decisions to make in the near future.  Pray also for God’s financial provision, and for our own faithfulness as He calls each of us to invest our time, talent and treasure to accomplish the ministry to which He has called us.

BEING THE CHURCH AT PRAIRIE LAKE - Thank you to everyone who participated in the school supply drive for students at Prairie Lake Elementary.  If you forgot to bring your items with you today, please see Donna Rodgers to make arrangements to get them to her in the next couple of days.  School starts tomorrow, and we want to deliver them to the school as early in the week as we can.  Your generous contribution is noticed and greatly appreciated by the administration, the teachers and the PLE students!

SOAPING WEEKLY - In order to prepare your spirit for the message each week, S.O.A.P. through a passage (read the Scripture, make your Observation, find a specific Application, and write a Prayer) in advance of Sunday service.  Suggested SOAPing Scripture passages for this month:  August 19 – Judges 9-10,  August 26 – Judges 11-12

RED PRAYER GATHERINGPlease plan to join us on Sunday, August 26th, at 4:00 pm, as we gather to pray for the students and leaders of RED Student Ministry.  All parents of students, and any other adults who are concerned for the spiritual health and growth of our students, are encouraged to participate.  A specific location will be announced next week.

 NEW SMALL GROUP OPPORTUNITIES

Sunday Night Women’s Group – Every other Sunday evening, this group meets in the Conference Room at 5:30.  The new study, Living Life Together by Shauna Niequist, begins tonight.  This would be a great time to join the group.  All women – any age – are invited and encouraged to attend.

Financial Peace University – This study of Biblical financial principles, taught by Dave Ramsey, will be offered to everyone on Wednesday evenings at 6:30 pm, beginning September 19th.  It is a nine session course.  The group will meet every Wednesday evening through November 14th.  If you would like to get a better grip on your own financial situation, and you want to have a better understanding of God’s perspective of stewardship, this group will be just the ticket. More details will be available in the coming weeks.  For now, make this a priority, and block off the time on your calendar.

BRIDGE FAMILY DAY – AUGUST 4 - A great big THANK YOU to everyone who helped make the Back-to-School Family Day at the Bridge a success.  The sacrifice of time and comfort to be of service to our brothers at the Bridge and their families is always worthwhile, as well as making an eternal impact.

BE THE CHURCH AT PRAIRIE LAKE - We are gathering supplies for the new school year at Prairie Lake Elementary.  Please take the provided supply list with you, purchase what you can at any of the many stores that have school supplies on sale, and then bring items with you when you come for worship service or group.  There will be a basket for collection in the lobby.  School starts August 13th, so we’ll need supplies here by next Sunday, August 12th, and we’ll deliver them to the school early in the week.

SOAPING WEEKLY - In order to prepare your spirit for the message each week, S.O.A.P. through a passage (read the Scripture, make your Observation, find a specific Application, and write a Prayer) in advance of Sunday service.  Suggested SOAPing Scripture passages for this month:  August 12 – Judges 9-10, August 19 – Judges 11-12, August 26 – Judges 13-14.

SECOND WEDNESDAY PRAYER - Please plan to join us this Wednesday, August 8th, at 7 pm, for 2nd Wednesday Prayer.  All adults, students and children are invited to be a part of our prayer time as we submit ourselves to God and seek His will and purpose for Westwood and for our own personal lives.

RED POPCORN & FLICKS IN THE PARK - Thursday, August 9th, RED students will meet at Westwood 6:30 pm, to go to an outdoor movie in Winter Park.  The featured movie is Finding Nemo. The movie will begin at dark.  See Tyson for more details.

SECURITY ALERT - You may already be aware that we had a break-in at our facility early last Sunday morning.  We have both exterior and interior security footage of the thief and his vehicle, all of which has been turned over to Orange County Sheriff’s detectives.  Besides two broken safety-glass windows which will need to be replaced, the only thing of value stolen was a fire-proof safe which did not contain cash or checks, but did house an external hard drive, a zip drive and paperwork containing the back-up financial and membership information from our database, but no social security numbers, personal bank or credit card information. Though we have no reason to believe this thief was looking for anything but cash, it would be wise for all of us to be even more diligent than usual in monitoring for any suspicious activity that could be an attempt to steal identity or gain access to financial accounts.  Please be on the alert!  Questions or concerns should be directed to the office staff.
